ALADIC (Latin American Alliance of Christian Churches) Short History
Inter American Evangelical Conference was held in July 1949 in Buenos Aires Argentina, in which the World Council of Churches (WCC) intended to organize Latin America for the Ecumenical Movement. Mistakenly an invitation was sent to Dr. Carl McIntire, President of the International Council of Christian Churches (ICCC), who arrived for the Conference with a group of Latin American leaders and missionaries faithful to the Lord's Word, but were not permitted to enter. The Conference was held as a closed conference. The WCC failed in its design and Fundamentalists called for a Pan American Evangelical Conference to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1951. As programmed, it was held in July, 1951, with five hundred delegates from sixteen countries, with the motto "The Christ of Scriptures".
From this Conference originated ALADIC, and it was considered its first Congress. Elected as President was Rev. Synesio Lira, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Since then ALADIC has held fifteen other Congresses:
II Congress, Santiago, Chili, January 11-18, 1954;
III Congress, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 16-23, 1956.
IV Congress, Rio de Janeiro (Petropolis), Brazil, August 12-21, 1958.
V Congress, Buenos Aires, Argentina, January 8-12, 1960.
VI Congress, Mexico City, Mexico, December 6-13, 1961
VII Congress, Recife, Brazil, July 15-22, 1967
VII Congress, Sao Paulo, Brazil, July 6-11, 1970
IX Congress, Recife, Brazil, July 23-28, 1974
X Congress, Temuco, Chile, January 29 to February 4, 1978
XI Congress, Lima, Peru, January 7-11, 1982
XII Congress, Santiago, Chile, January 29 to February 3, 1985
XIII Congress, Sao Paulo, Brazil, February 14-19, 1989
XIV Congress, Santiago, Chile, 10-15 February 1992, with: "Watch, Christ is Coming Soon" as the theme. An attendance exceeded one thousand people
XV Congress, Guayaquil, Ecuador, July 17-22, 1995, with "Faithful Churches Evangelize, Build and Stand for the Faith" as the theme.
XVI Congress, Guatemala, Guatemala, February 1-6, 1999, with "Maranatha, the Lord Is Coming".
Apart from Rev. Synesio Lyra, have presided ALADIC, Revs. Baudilio Saavedra from Chile, Dr. Israel Gueiros and Porfirio Gueiros, from Brazil and Dr. Nadir Carreño from Chile have served as ALADIC President. Presently Dr Nadir Carreno is serving as President.
During the 5th Congress, held simultaneously with a meeting of the Executive Committee of WCC, ALADIC information given regarding Dr. Hromadka's (Czechoslovakian) Communist membership, and his role as an agent of that atheistic ideology forced him to leave that meeting.
In 1961 the WCC intended again to organize Latin America, through the Second Latin American Evangelical Conference, but it failed again thanks to the information delivered by the Directory of ALADIC, that had met there, too. Clearly established was the communist ideology of many of the most prominent ecumenical leaders in that Conference, as Dr. John Mackay, who had to leave the country for that reason, and Dr. José Miguez Bonino.
In 1982, at last, the WCC succeeded in achieving an organization for Latin America with the founding of the CLAI (Latin American Council of Churches). ALADIC's action delayed the endeavors of the WCC for 31 years!
In the second week of July 2001 will be held the XVII Congress in Lima, Peru, with the theme, "Foundations of the Faith", based on Matthew 24:35, ALADIC's fiftieth anniversary will be celebrated.
Bible believers in Latin America, by God's grace, are determined to stand fast and faithful to the Lord. We are ready, till Christ comes again, to deal with every form of apostasy, and especially with the WCC.
